On 12th July, the EU AI Act was officially published in the Official Journal of the European Union! 🌟 It will come into force 2nd August 2024, setting the stage for a new era of AI governance.
🗓️ Key Dates to Remember:
1. August 2024: Entry into force
2. February 2025: Ban on certain high-risk AI systems begins
3. August 2025: Obligations for providers of general-purpose AI models and national supervisory authorities
4. August 2026: Obligations for high-risk AI systems, national sanctions, and AI repositories From 2. August 2027: Full application for all risk categories.
To mark this milestone, our founding member Hub France IA, have released a factsheet with all the crucial dates. In line with our objective of helping the European ecosystem to grow and flourish, EAIF is making this resource available in English. 📊
Commission launches consultation on the Code of Practice for general-purpose Artificial Intelligence
The Code of Practice, foreseen by the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act), will address critical areas such as transparency, copyright-related rules, risk identification and assessment, risk mitigation, and internal risk management. This comes in addition to the call for expression of interest to participate in the drawing-up of the first General-Purpose AI Code of Practice between September 2024 and April 2025.
European Conference of Machine Learning
The flagship European conference ECML PKDD, will take place in Vilnius Lithuania 9-13th September. Over 400+ presentations, 8 tutorials and among 27 workshops any emphasize the importance of bias and fairness in AI, with dedicated sessions like BIAS 2024 focusing on mitigating biases in machine learning models. Explainable AI is a significant theme, highlighted in workshops such as TempXAI and XKDD, ensuring transparency and interpretability in AI decisions for informed policy-making. Trustworthy machine learning is also addressed, particularly in the context of imperfect data, aiming to enhance the reliability and accountability of AI systems for experts.
AI Weekend
Imagine a sunny Adriatic coast, great discussions by the sea, networking with experts from OpenAI, Google, Meta, and TikTok, plus many more brilliant startups and innovative companies pushing AI boundaries. It's the perfect blend of business and pleasure!
